What is Assessment?

Assessment is a term that describes the use of various testing tools to gather objective information about an individual. This information can be used in academic, workplace, or personal contexts. The goal of assessment is to identify level of functioning as well as identify particular diagnosis, if applicable.  Assessment typically involves collecting data from a number of sources. This always includes an initial assessment interview and the administration, scoring, and interpretation of particular psychological tests.  It may also include a review of previous testing, consultation with teachers, therapists, family, or any other relevant individuals.

During our first meeting, we will determine the best tests to fit your needs. Each assessment is different and the tests used are selected according to the specific reasons you have come in for testing.  Once we have met for an assessment interview, you will receive an estimate of the costs and time involved in your assessment.

After an assessment is complete, I will compile the results into a comprehensive assessment report and meet with you to review the results and make recommendations. I will assist you in finding any appropriate follow-up referrals.

Child and Adolescent Assessment

There are many reasons why assessment may be beneficial to your child or adolescent. Many children struggle with education or behavioral issues that prevent them from fully succeeding in their school, home or social environments. This can be a confusing and frustrating experience for both children and parents. It is invaluable to have a comprehensive assessment done to identify the source of these difficulties and begin to make necessary changes. While school systems often provide educational testing, the process can be lengthy and frustrating for families eager to understand their children's difficulties.
